Yemisi is the Home Office (HO) National Community Engagement Lead – Nigeria with over 20 years of strategic and operational experience in various departments across the civil service. Her current role involves engaging the African communities at strategic level to raise awareness and facilitate voluntary return of vulnerable Africans who are in the UK illegally to return to their home country in dignity and respect. Her role also involves raising awareness and encouraging the community to engage the Home office on issues such as Modern Slavery, Human Trafficking, Domestic Violence/Abuse and Safeguarding. She is very passionate about Equality Diversity and Inclusion Advisor (EDIA), she has contributed effectively to addressing EDI issues within the HO, she was recognised as the HO EDIA of the year in 2014. In 2015, she was awarded an MBE for her services to Border Security and Staff Wellbeing at work. As a result of her work, every civil servant in the UK now has access to free Mental Health Support Service. She sits on the HO Immigration Enforcement Equality Diversity Action Group. Yemisi is a respected community leader within the Nigeria and African diaspora community in the UK. She is the immediate past president of Association of British-Nigeria Law Enforcement (ABLE) officers, an organisation created to challenge the negative image of Nigeria and Nigerians in the UK. Following the high rate of safeguarding issues within the community, Yemisi decided to create a group that will look and address this issue within the Nigeria and African community. She is currently the Chair of British-Nigeria Safeguarding Consortium (BNSC) and the Global coordinator for Friends of Eti-Oni, a UK registered charity, raising awareness and supporting female cocoa farmers in Nigeria She coaches and mentors young British-Nigerians in her spare time. Yemisi is passionate about improving the image of Nigeria and Nigerians abroad. Yemisi works closely with the Nigeria High Commission in addressing issues that affects Nigerians in the areas of Migration, criminality and safeguarding. She has participated and delivered presentations at various international conferences |
